Description
A working re-creations of Leonardo Da Vinci's 15th century designs!
Leonardo da Vinci is widely recognized as one of the greatest minds in history, and his designs are a testament to his incredible imagination and skill. From his sketches of flying machines and military weapons to his plans for grand architectural feats and innovative engineering projects, da Vinci’s designs are still admired and studied today.
The Aerial Screw is an iconic image by Leonardo and defines an artist and inventor well ahead of his time. This working model has a canopy that spins on the support structure, illustrating a way Leonardo thought flight might be possible! A fun and inspiring project from one of the great minds of history. Dimensions once built 11 x 11 x 13 cm.
Leonardo designed a wide range of catapults, some functional, some not so much. This Catapult miniature re-creates one of Leonardo’s more interesting designs that uses the power of bent wood to launch projectiles. Make and launch small projectiles up to 10 metres. It really works - try laying siege to a cookie jar! Dimensions once built 18 x 6 x 9 cm.
The Giant Crossbow is one of Leonardo’s most epic weapons. He made drawings of many crossbow styles, and this one was designed to launch stone balls, instead of arrows, like most crossbows. We don’t know if it was ever made, but it sure was big! The miniature crossbow launches a mini ball 3 meters. Not enough power to take over a castle, but close! Dimensions once built 15 x 9 x 5 cm.
The Ornithopter miniature is a working re-creation of Leonardo's original 15th century design. Flying has always been a dream of humans and Leonardo’s fascination with birds ad flight was evident in his many studies of human powered flying machine. It remains a mystery if his ornithopter designs were ever made and tested, but we have made a fun model that you can make and flap. Dimensions once built 17 x 20 x 21 cm.
These miniature models are easy to make with pre-cut MDF wood and ready to assemble (some glue needed). It is a great STEM kit to learn about levers and simple machines, combined with history and launching things or flapping wings - awesome! Collect all four miniatures today!
