Golden Retrievers were developed in Scotland by Lord Tweedmouth, who bred them from two now-extinct breeds: the Tweed Spaniel and the Wavy-Coated Retriever. Every Golden Retriever can trace its ancestry back to these two breeds. They were originally developed to be strong working retrievers while remaining gentle and friendly with people.
